In the shadow of ground zero, they point at the hole in the skyline and they raise their hands to their mouths and stand in silence. They walk next to the 56-foot-long bronze depiction of America’s darkest moment and stop to stare at the poster taped to the wall nearby, the one depicting 343 faces of firefighters who never came home on Sept. 11, 2001. They close their eyes and remember.
